- Greg Nesmith got a little lost, arrived here and asked:
-
- : Which emulator do you think is best? I know there are
- : several out there. Some are shareware and some cost a
- : fortune to register. What is your opinion? Which one
- : is the best deal? With which do you get the most
- : bang for your buck?
-
- and Bo (ez13942@nyssa.swt.edu) nearly made me spill my coffee by saying:
-
- : Emulators! Yes, we discuss those frequently here at comp.sys.cbm.
-
- : Well, the old PET emulator from CBM wasn't bad-- let you play
- : "Weather" on the c64. I had a VIC-20 emulator for my Commie too, but
- : that one kinda stunk. I read somewhere about a full blown Apple 2e
- : emulator, complete with hardware ports, but it was never released (I
- : believe).
- :
- : The best one?
- :
- : I like native modes myself, unless you consider GEOS an emulator of
- : some sort.
-
- Don't forget the Spectrum and BBC emulators! Both could only run BASIC
- programs but they handled the graphics well. We use a Speccy emulator
- to port pics to the C64 and I know of one guy who does fractals on
- the BBC one and freezes the screens for C64 demos!
-
- Small, subtle and friendly note to Greg: Sorry for the silly answers, but
- you really need to pose that question on comp.emulators.c64 The regulars
- on this group are all using the real thing and although they may use
- emulators from time to time are probably not the best people to judge
- simply on the grounds that we all feel that you just can't compete with
- a real C64! Oh, you should think yourself fortunate that Pontus doesn't
- seem to be around at the moment... =-)
-
- For what it's worth (see above) I think that the C64s is the best PC based
- emulator I've seen but don't bother unless you have a fairly big machine!
-
- Jason =-)
